BILLY RAY’S HELLS ANGELS

Famed Life Magazine photographer Billy Ray, recently released a book of never published photographs from time he spent shooting the Hells Angels in the spring of 1965. The photographs capture the very early days of the world’s most notorious bike gang.

In the gallery that follows are some absolutely amazing images by a young artist who completely immersed himself in his work. The story never ran in Life because an editor decided he didn’t want to run a piece on “those smelly bastards.” Thank god for the short sightedness of one managing editor because unearthing these photos 47 years later is a tremendous gift.
